Preliminary CP-CC-1
For those who have never learned Chinese before and cannot read Pinyin or Chinese characters. Learners will be introduced to some common situations, such as how to ask for directions, go shopping, express likes and dislikes, and more.
- Identify the Chinese phonetic system (Pinyin).
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the Chinese writing fundamental system, including stroke orders, structures, pinyin, and writing sequences of Chinese characters.
- Discover useful Chinese phrases and greetings.
- Interpersonal Communication: Students are able to interact and negotiate meaning in spoken, signed, or written conversations to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions.
- Students are able to understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
- Students are able to present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate on a variety of topics using appropriate media and adapting to various audiences of listeners, readers, or viewers.
- Learn up to 800 words and expressions.
Intermediate CP-CC-2
For those who are ready to move beyond communication for basic daily living. Students will begin learning more in-depth self-expression, such as explaining needs, talking about ideas and sharing opinions.
- Students are able to use the language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures studied.
- Students are able to use the language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the relationship between the products and perspectives of the cultures studied.
- Students can build, reinforce, and expand their knowledge of other disciplines while using the language to develop critical thinking and solve problems creatively.
- Students can access and evaluate information and diverse perspectives that are available through the language and its cultures.
- Upon completion of the level, students will be able to master 2000 new words and expressions and an additional 80 grammar points & sentence patterns.
Advanced CP-CC-3
For students who can confidently communicate in many social and informal situations. The Advanced level builds on communication competence by introducing further information and conversation about Chinese culture and its importance in daily life. Students will learn from current Chinese news media stories as well as classic literature.
- Students use the language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the nature of language through comparisons of the language studied and their own.
- Students can use the language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the concept of culture by comparing the cultures studied and their own.
- Students can use the language both within and beyond the classroom to interact and collaborate in their community and the globalized world.
- Students set goals and reflect on their progress in using languages for enjoyment, enrichment, and advancement.
- Upon reaching this point, students will have learned up to 3500 new characters along with sentence structures and patterns.
